Fact-Checking & Verification

Effective date: April 10, 2026 · Publisher: Scott Polisar, Founder & Publisher

NorthPortList aims to verify factual claims before publication, using the type of verification appropriate to the subject and content type. This page describes the verification approach used across different kinds of content.

How verification works

Depending on the content type, verification may draw on a range of sources and methods. The goal is to confirm that factual claims are accurate before publication, using the most reliable and direct sources available.

Direct observation

Original photos, video, or firsthand experience of the subject

Official sources

Official city, county, state, or government websites and public records

Primary sources

Statements from official or primary sources, businesses, or property representatives

Planning documents

Maps, planning documents, agency materials, and permit records

Practical verification standard

Not every local guide or neighborhood article requires the same level of verification as a news update or factual claim about a public matter. NorthPortList applies a practical, common-sense verification standard based on the nature of the content.

Content that makes specific factual claims — addresses, permit rules, school names, distances, public contacts — is held to a higher verification standard than general descriptive or lifestyle content.

When information changes

Some information changes over time. Hours, contacts, addresses, fees, rules, and development status can all change after a page is published. NorthPortList may update pages when more current or more precise information becomes available, but cannot guarantee that all content reflects the most current state of any given subject at all times.

If you believe information is outdated or inaccurate, see the Corrections Policy for how to submit a request.

How readers can help

Local readers often have firsthand knowledge that improves published content. If you believe information is outdated or inaccurate, contact NorthPortList through the contact page with the page URL, the statement in question, and any supporting details.
