Outdoor recreation
Trails, parks & outdoor spaces

More than 30 miles of community trails connect neighborhoods, parks, and natural preserves throughout Wellen Park. Two major new trails are under development for 2026.

Nature trail · New 2026
Oakheart Nature Trail
A winding 3-mile trail near the Everly and Lakespur neighborhoods featuring shell paths and boardwalks along a 50-acre lake, wetlands, and preserved natural areas. Includes a planned fishing pier and connection to the future school campus. Designed to feel like a nature immersion, not a sidewalk.
Trail · New 2026
Buttonwood Trail
A 2.5-mile shell and boardwalk trail through natural scenery near the Palmera neighborhood, with a gated connection directly into Palmera. Completed early 2026. Shell paths, wetland views, and easy neighborhood access make it a daily-use trail for Palmera residents.
Park · Family
Station 87 Park
A community park inspired by the nearby fire station, featuring custom firehouse-themed playground equipment, a large open lawn, and a covered pavilion for gatherings. One of the newer community spaces, designed for all ages. The adjacent new firehouse is still under construction.
Dog park · Coming 2026
Fetch Dog Park
A planned ~2-acre fenced dog park designed as a community social space for both dogs and owners. Parking along the future Wellen Park Boulevard extension. Expected to open around early 2026 — one of the most anticipated community additions.
Trails · Community-wide
30+ Miles of Community Trails
The backbone of Wellen Park’s outdoor lifestyle — paved and shell paths connecting neighborhoods, parks, and natural preserves throughout the entire community. Used for walking, running, cycling, and golf cart travel. Ongoing expansion adds new connections each year.
Lake · Paddling
Kayak & Canoe Launches
Grand Lake offers kayak and canoe launches with fishing access and calm paddling water. The 80-acre lake is suitable for recreational paddling year-round. Additional waterway access is available through the community’s canal and lake system.

Golf
4 golf courses in and around Wellen Park

Wellen Park is one of the few master-planned communities in Florida with multiple distinct golf options at different price points and membership structures.

Bundled golf · Active community
Wellen Park Golf & Country Club
18-hole bundled golf course deeded with home purchase in the Wellen Park Golf & Country Club neighborhood. Resort-style amenity package. One of the entry-level bundled golf options in the Wellen Park portfolio, with homes from the mid $200s.
Optional golf · Established
Boca Royale Golf Club
18-hole course with optional membership in an established 1,000-acre neighborhood. Two clubhouses, resort-style pool, pickleball. New amenity complex coming in 2027. No CDD fees. One of the more refined golf lifestyle options in the broader Wellen Park footprint.
Bundled golf · Resale only
Sarasota National Golf Course
Championship 18-hole private course bundled with homes in the Sarasota National community. Wetland and preserve views. Note: the course is closed for renovation in 2026 for approximately one year. Resale community — no new construction.
Optional golf · Opening 2026
Myakka Pines Golf Course
The golf anchor for the upcoming Esplanade at Wellen Park (Taylor Morrison), opening in 2026 with optional membership. Taylor Morrison’s Esplanade brand brings resort-quality amenity buildout alongside the golf experience.

Beach access
Gulf beaches about 15 minutes away

One of Wellen Park’s strongest selling points: Gulf Coast beach access without coastal insurance costs. The Manasota Beach Road expansion (completing late 2026/early 2027) will cut the drive time from ~15 minutes to approximately 8–10 minutes.

Beach · ~15 min
Manasota Beach & Englewood Beach
Barrier island beaches on Manasota Key, approximately 15 minutes from Wellen Park. Quieter, less crowded than Venice, and a favorite of local residents for quick beach days. Blind Pass Beach on Manasota Key is particularly popular for dolphin sightings.
Beach · ~15–20 min
Venice Beach
Known as the Shark Tooth Capital of the World. Free parking, concessions, good beach, easy access. One of the most popular local beaches for Wellen Park and North Port residents. About 15–20 minutes depending on starting point.
Beach · ~30–35 min
Siesta Key Beach
Consistently ranked one of the top beaches in the country. Powdery white quartz sand that stays cool even in summer heat. Worth the slightly longer drive for a full beach day. About 30–35 minutes from Wellen Park.
Road project · 2026–27
Manasota Beach Road Expansion
A major road extension completing late 2026 or early 2027 creates a more direct westward route to the Gulf from Wellen Park. Expected to reduce beach drive time from ~15 minutes to approximately 8–10 minutes — a meaningful lifestyle improvement for residents.
